Talking Teaching and Learning at Cave Hill

I currently have the privilege of facilitating the course Advancing Teaching and Learning with Technology which is one of four courses in the Certificate in University teaching and Learning (CUTL) programme at Cave Hill.  We deliver this course in a blended mode, with a lot of the theoretical background material covered online, and face-to-face sessions dedicated to providing a hands-on exposure to some of the primary multimedia development and delivery tools covered in the course.  In this way, faculty get a first-hand experience of online learning from the student perspective, which we hope will positively impact on their use of this technology as instructors.

We use the Moodle course and learning management platform, and a great deal of interaction in the course is facilitated by the online discussion forums.  Indeed the rich and varied discussion of issues surrounding teaching and learning in higher education that takes place on these forums, has convinced us of the need for avenues to extend these conversations beyond the confines of the course.  This blog is one such avenue.  On as regular a basis as time allows, I will be raising issues relevant to teaching and learning in higher education, particularly issues related to the use of technology, based on my readings, on new research findings, best practices, and experiences shared by others.  I hope that readers will find the blog interesting and useful, and, moreso, that you will share your comments on the issues as well.
